What is google?

Before you start laughing or throwing stones at me. Analyze the question once again I did not ask if you know google or not. Someone must be living in stone ages not to know that but what I meant to ask for is that is it a search engine, Mail provider, application engine, google earth, Ad agency, mobile applications, what ? Silently google has entered in major areas of our lives and it is not over yet.

Google started as a search engine and free email service. It was a great way to hook people by the magic word “Free”. As google become popular it started not only protecting itself but also invading our privacy. Do you know google automatically stores a cookie in your computer for about 30 years (I am not into statistic here). It can then trace from your ip address any activity you do like it can trace what you like to buy online, what kind of sites you visit, what kind of books you like, your preferred airline etc etc. In short if it wants it can trace every activity made by you online.

 
Today Gmail is free but just imagine if google starts asking for money. Where will you go? Over the time people have given too much power to google.

Knowledge is power ?

Google is accumulating more and more power everyday a day will come when it will start controlling our lives. I am not saying that a company should not grow but it should be careful in invading private lives.

Good Things About Google:

It is a powerful search engine. Its spam filter is the best in the world. Google apps are great etc

Bad Really Bad Things:

Storing a cookie in your computer makes browsing no longer private.  Storing GUID.
Trying to manage too many things at once can crash their overall system.  
Their Support is really bad if you are a free customer.

Conclusion

Use the Giant but be careful.
